Organic Cotton
Keeping our Planet Clean.
Conventional cotton farming is one of agriculture's most environmentally destructive activities, taking an enormous toll on the air, water, and soil, as well as people living around pesticide laden cotton fields.
Organically grown cotton is grown in soil that has been certified free from pesticides, herbicides and other toxins. Organic farming uses 50% less fossil fuels than conventional agriculture. Organic cotton farming builds strong soil through crop rotation, compost and tillage, and retains water more efficiently because of increased organic matter in the soil, while resulting in production that is better than conventional cotton.
Certified organic cotton farming also prohibits the use of genetic engineering, irradiation, sewage sludge, toxic and persistent synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. By its very nature, organic cotton cannot be grown from genetically engineered seed.
Why Organic?
1. Social responsibility: We all need to do our part to keep our planet clean. Chemicals and pesticides invade drinking water and groundwater, polluting its fish and even reaching human consumption. Organic cotton grows without any pesticides or toxins.
2. Biodegradable: Organic cotton biodegrades naturally over time. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester, eventually become waste and let out harmful toxins when they degrade.
3. Touch: Many people are allergic or dislike wearing synthetic textiles. Organic cotton has all the properties of the new synthetic breathable fibers with added softness and drape. Organic dyes & organic cotton feel better against the skin.
4. Absorption: Not only do its chemicals reach into our groundwater, conventional clothing is worn next to our most porous organ- our skin. If nicotine, birth control medication and other drugs are absorbed through patches on our skin, how can we assume that we do not absorb the chemicals in our clothing? Organic cotton is natural & eco-friendly dyes and do not contain irritating chemicals. Many of them are also considered hypoallergenic and naturally anti-bacterial.
Why India?
India is the leading producer of organic cotton. Conventional cotton farming, which uses harsh chemicals and pesticides takes a toll on the earth, water, animals and the health of farmers. In North America we have so many opportunities available. It is important to be able to share our good fortune with those who do not have the means to live in such abundance. By supporting Pure Blankz, you are helping our company make a difference in the environment and the lives of farmers who need your help.
